Hiking and backpacking helps you to escape from a fast-paced, complex and often stressful world. Some hikers enjoy a slow, relaxed walk, taking in the scenery, while other like to take on nature and push themselves to the limit. When you are ready to travel away from home and hike for several days or more, your choices of environment and terrrain are almost limitless. Rural regions, especially in mountainous areas, often have extensive trail systems, some with parking lots, so that different sections can be easily accessed.

Anywhere you might choose for a vacation is a potential hiking destination, hiking is a great way to explore foreign countries. Trail guides and hiking guidebooks are usually available for tourist areas.

With so many choices available, you can enjoy hiking in easy conditions, or if you a more experienced hiker, in challenging environments.

Wherever you hike, you will need to know what conditions to expect and what gear to take with you. Knowledge and skill can help you to be comfortable in all conditions. Acquring these skills will improve your safety and comfort when hiking. They also help to ensure that your hiking trip is as memorable and adventurous as you would like it to be.
