Is there any better way to see, smell and feel nature up close than from a kayak or a canoe? These simple vessels can take you to hidden coves, tidal salt marshes, or along rocky shores - places that larger motorized craft can’t go.
Plus by slicing quietly through the water, you can sneak up on wildlife in their natural habitat.
Kayak and canoe camping are probably two of the easiest camping adventures you can experience. They are relaxing, gentle sports where the efficiency of the stroke is important and not the power. All you need is a stable boat, safety gear, navigational aids and reliable camping equipment.
And because weight and volume is less of an issue, you can pack a few luxury items that would incapacitate backpackers.
Of course, a kayaking or canoe trip isn’t all serenity. Buck a headwind all day or portage a fully loaded boat and you’ll feel pain in muscles you didn’t know you had.
