In case you are wondering what else to include in your list of essential items to bring along, put dental floss as part of your backup and mending sewing kit.
Dental floss is the “toughest” thread you can buy. I use it to mend tears in packs, tarps, and other heavy-duty camping items.
Tip: You’ll need a heavy duty sewing needle with a large eye to accomodate the thick dental floss!
If you crack a canoe seat, thwart yoke, or tool handle, try this: Apply instant epoxy to the crack then tightly and evenly wrap the crack with dental floss. Spread instant epoxy over the wrap and allow it to dry. Your repair will never let go!
